1,000 Voices for Yazidis
2017
The exhibition 1,000 Voices for Yazidis highlights the genocide committed against the Yazidis in northern Iraq by ISIS. Under the patronage of the Ministry of State Baden-Württemberg, it gives survivors a platform while protecting their privacy. Developed in collaboration with Yazidi women, it shares their stories, hopes, and cultural heritage.
At its core is Lalish, an interactive installation by Didem Gezginci and myself (Vivian Darges). Wooden towers, painted with conductive patterns, emit the voices of Yazidi women when touched, creating a sacred atmosphere.
The exhibition will end with a charity shop selling artwork made in workshops with Yazidi women to support Yazidi communities. Through art and storytelling, awareness is raised and dialogue is encouraged.
